Quinn daughter in NZ

Cork

My NZ friend believes her Irish cousin could be Patrick Quinn.

She says only one other member of her father's family married (there were 7 children) and my wild guess is that it was Michael Joseph Quinn (born 1896 in Limerick) who MAY have married a girl whose surname was Hartnett. If this is the right family then their son Patrick J Quinn (born 1938 in Cork) could be my friend's first cousin.

He MAY have married in 1957 in Cork.

Would anyone be able to throw some light on this???

Thank you.

NEW ZEALAND: Do you know much about their emigration? The dates, the reason why they left, who they might have travelled with?..etc.? Generally, more information was given at the port ofarrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at, this could be a goodplace to find more information -and perhaps even find out an exact place of origin. There are lots ofbooks and documents available about the Irish emigration to NZ. There is a website you could lookat: http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/irish/2 for information about the Irish in New Zealand. The next thing you could do is find the counties and places in Ireland your family names are mostprevalent. Look at the website http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/ and perhapssomething will match some other clue you may have found elsewhere? If nothing turnsup ? it is advisable to try different variations of the spellings of the names. If you have a possiblefirst name you could try the Irish Census 1901, 1911 at www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ or the landvaluation record called Griffiths Valuationhttp://askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml

Hi

thank you for your comprehensive and very kind message

i have left messages all over this website but haven't managed to connect the threads so it wasn't clear from my message on this one that the friend who's contemporary family i am trying to find is the daughter of Francis B Quinn,  born in Limerick  in 1898 and educated and died in Cork. He was a surgeon in the Royal Navy and married a NZ woman, in Jamaica.

i have, with a lot of amazing help from people on this website, located the census records for her grandparents and uncles and aunts but the next generation (her generation) are very hard to find! i know only one other of the siblings married in her father's family, but am not sure who that was. am hoping it was michael j quinn who seems to have married and had children of his own (including Patrick) and i am hoping they might live in Cork. Her grandfather Thomas was in the RIC so they moved a lot, but the fact that her father Francis died in Cork in the care of his sisters gives me a glimmer of hope that her cousin (and his family) MAY live there.

my friend is 78 now and would love to connect to her Irish family. I am just trying to help her out. She thinks she has a cousin Patrick and so that is the person i am trying to find.

(her father worked all over the world but never emigrated to NZ.)

thank you though for your very kind help.
