My great grandmother

Cork

My greatgrandmother - Mary Cogan emigrated to Australia with her parents, Robert Cogan and Mary Hennessey, arriving about 1844 - 1848 in Port Phillip Bay, Australia. I think she was only an infant on arrival in Australia. Mary married Henry David Cunningham Dando and they had nine children and lived a wonderful life as farmers.

It was not until I found a death notice of Mary that her parents names were ever mentioned. I have a gravestone photo showing where she was born as cork, Ireland, 17 May 1843.

She died in Port Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on the 30 June 1927, aged 84 years.

Hope someone can find a little more about them.

I have located Mary and her sister's baptism record's, the records show they were living in Cork City.

Hi Brendan, On Mary's headstone (Mary Dando married to Henry Dando) it says born at Cork, Ireland on 17th May 1843.  The baptism dates on your record is 1st July 1838.  Strange as Father, Robert Cogan and Mother, Mary Hennessy are recorded as parents on Mary's death Index, Ancestry.co.uk - Australia Death Index, 1787-1985.  1927 is also recorded on the tombstone - 30th June 1927 at Port Melbourne, Australia - buried alongside her husband Henry Dando.

Hi Jenny,

 

I have located the death record for Mary Dando, it says Mary was born 1844, her parents on her death record are the exact same as on her baptism record in Cork. Mary lied about her age, the birth dates of her children may prove that point. The family were not farmers as they lived in an inner city parish in Cork.
