Moylan McAuliffe connection needed. Newmarket

Cork

Looking for Ellen Moylan married to Cornelius McAuliffe around 1818. Believe both born around 1800. Children include Malachi McAuliffe, Michael and Cornelius McAuliffe. Their grandson was Jack McAuliffe the pugilist. Believe there was also Mary and Honora. Malachi (Malachy) is my husbands 2nd great grandfather born 12/3/1819 and died 11/7/1910 civil war veteran who migrated to Maine 1845. I’m stuck on his parents and their Moylan connection. Michael and Cornelius also to Maine where Michael lived with wife Rebecca Clark and children. Cornelius the son went to NYC lived and died in NYC after serving in the war in Alaska.

Malachy married Catherine Conner(s) in Maine 9/11/1847. He noted in a newspaper article that his grand uncle was Stephen Moylan of Revolutionary War. Either Jack M or his dad’s (Cornelius)obituary also mentioned Stephen Moylan. I’ve done extensive research on Ancestry and online for the Moylan connection to Ellen and am lost as to who her parents were as well as Cornelius’. Any help or guidance is appreciated. I hope I’ve given helpful info. Thank you in advance. Jeanne Hogan

I located this fascinating history of the Moylan family that maybe you have already seen. https://moylan.cottonhills.net/ Only one son of John Moylan remained in Cork (Denis). According to this writeup only one son married and remained in Cork (Denis Moylan). Denis married a Catherine Creagh and they had four children in the 1790s.I located baptismal records for three of the children on irishgenealogy.ie Catherine 1792 Denis 1794 John 1795. They lived on Batchelors Quay and the baptisms were held at Sts. Peter and Paul church.

I located the baptismal records for Honora (February 1835) and Cornelius (January 1838) but did not find records for Malachi, Michael and Mary.

I did find the marriage record for Cornelius McAuliffe son of Cornelius. He married Jane Bailey on September 15 1861 at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Cork. Since RC marriages were not registered civilly until 1864, this church may have been a Church of Ireland parish.

FindMyPast.ie has two additional records Denis McAuliffe baptized November 17 1823 at Newmarket and a Cornelius McAuliffe baptized July 29 1828 at Newmarket. Presumably, this Cornelius died young. Same parents Cornelius/Con McAuliffe and Ellen Moylan

Newmarket baptismal records start in November 1821.

At the end of this article about Francis there is genealogical info

Francis Moylan, bishop of Cork, 1735-1815

Per tree on Ancestry

1824- Cornelius McAuliffe, Jeremiah McAuliffe and Daniel Callaghan jointly leased 30 acres of land in Killowen, Newmarket townland (adjacent to Duarrigle and Copsefield townlands) against which they paid a tithe to the Church of Ireland.

Maybe your Cornelius?? Have you researched Jeremiah? Perhaps a family connection

Thank you! I have most of that info but I will check out your info as well. I am completely stuck on how Ellen is related to those Moylans. Very interesting family! I couldn’t find anything on Malachy, Michael or Mary either. The only Ellen I found that could’ve been Malachy’s mother would have been much younger (a very young teen) than I thought, so not sure. Yikes! I guess it’s possible, but since Malachy was born before 1821 I probably won’t find anything on him. I just found yesterday and I don’t think I saved it. 🤦‍♀️ I’ll keep digging and check out those sites. Thanks so much!

I’ve since found conflicting info on John Moylan and eldest son. I have found letters from Nano Nagle stating Bishop Francis oldest brother, who I believe was David, passed in 1769. His wife passed the following year both young. The Bishops father, John was ill at the time.

John’s son, John Moylan, who was clothier general in Revolutionary war, was the one that died 1799 and his will is online.

Looking online and I have a book on Stephen Moylan from 1909 that has conflicting info. I am piecing things together but still no Ellen Moylan. Yet.
