looking for information on my grandfather

Cork

My grandfather was born June 22, 1886 - James Fancis Dwyer (O'Dwyer) in Dublin, County Cork. We do not have much information about him except his father died when he was about 16 and his mother remarried to a man with the last name of Roth. They moved to England and my grandfather left the house with his brother (don't know his name) to come to America. The brother died either on the way to America or shortly after arriving in Canada. No known sisters.

They arrived in Canada by ship in 1902? He traveled by train from St. Thomas, Canada, and arrived in America in 1904 in Buffalo NY.

DNA says I have a second cousin Named Patric Farely in Ireland. We have corresponded and he has no information about my grandfather.

I do not have the names of his parents. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, James's naturalization papers say he was from Dublin, not Cork. I searched birth records for Dublin between 1880 and 1890 and found one James Francis:

James Francis born 13th August 1890 to Thomas Dwyer and Ellen Murphy:

https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/birth_returns/births_1890/02420/1901844.pdf

his baptism: https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/church/harrington-street_mf_1890-1901_ba_0010.pdf

Name: James Francis Dwyer

Address: 24 Harty Place

Father: Thomas Dwyer

Mother: Ellen Murphy

Sponsor 1: James Cahil

Sponsor 2: Anne Murphy

Priest: Matthew Mac Entee

About the record

Book Number:

Page: 4

Entry Number: 266

Record Identifier: DU-RC-BA-411899

The birth date does not match the one James Francis gave on the naturaIization papers, but his shouId not discount this record. Incorrect ages and birth dates are common in Irish genealogy.

There were also a few other James Dwyers born in DubIin 1880-1890.

James Dwyer is shown in the 1911 census living with his parents and siblings on Harty Place. If this is your James, he did not go to Canada in the earIy 1900s.
