Probable match for this James J. in R.I.C. records with service number 35574, a Protestant was born (Co.) Sligo, recommended for service by an S. J. Keeves[?], married 7th March 1878, wife born Co. Kerry, he appears to have signed up 7th May 1869, and served in various locations - Co. Galway, King's Co., Cork city County Tipperary, several times in the reserves and assigned mounted division starting for a time in 1st Sept 1874.

Having reviewed other writing in the service register I now believe that the person recommending this James J. for R.I.C. service was "S.I. Reeves" - the County Directory in Thom's 1868 lists a Thomas Reeves as RIC Sub-Inspector (S.I.) based at Ballisodare Co. Sligo....

Knowing details of this person could help narrow down where this James grew up.- service number for this RIC officer Thomas Reeves was 29868
