Herlihy family Landowner?

Cork

I recently read the article about the famine migration and am wondering if it is possible to determine whether my ancestor William Herlihy was a tenant farmer and, if so, who was the landlord.

William Herlihy was living in Yonkers NY in 1950 in the house of William O'Brien when his immediate family, friends and relatives immigrated to New York in October 1950 to join him .I know the exact date because I was fortunate to have found an article detailing their immigration in a Cork newspaper! (attached below)

Presumably they were living somewhere in Monanimy/Killavullen/Annakissy area when the last child born in Ireland, Bridget, was baptised Feb 1848. Additional marriage and baptismal records indicate they lived in the area for the 7 years prior.

Any information on whether they were tenant farmers, the location of the farm, and the landlord would be appreciated.

Thank you! Pamela

Pamela:

I don't believe your William Herlihy was included in the Griffiths survey. In Co. Cork, the survey was completed in 1852 and likely started in 1850. Also, if William was leasing land, he would have been less likely to leave for America in the late 1840s. Possibly his father was included in the Griffiths.
