Help locating old General Register of Nationals volumes

Cork

I’m trying to locate the physical General Register of Nationals kept under Ireland’s 1935 nationality law. Does anyone know which archive holds the volumes, their catalogue references, or whether researchers can consult them?

I’m looking for a possible entry for Helen Mary Hurley (later Lassonde), born 15 July 1897 in Concord, New Hampshire. Her baptismal name may appear as Mary Ellen Hurley. Her father, Dennis Francis Hurley, was born in County Cork.

A published study identifies a surviving volume covering entries 1,476–2,343. I would also need to identify the adjacent volumes, since I do not know whether Helen was registered or when.

An archive reference, finding aid, or a documented check of a specific volume would be very helpful. Thank you.

Thank you very much for looking into this and for finding the 1935 General Register of Nationals Regulations.

The General Register of Nationals I am trying to locate was not a U.S. or Canadian publication. It was an official Irish Government register established under the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act 1935 and the 1935 regulations you linked.

Irish diplomatic and consular offices abroad could receive applications for registration, and copies of overseas registrations were transmitted back to Ireland. I am specifically trying to determine where the surviving physical General Register of Nationals volumes or indexes from approximately 1935–1956 are held today.

My particular interest is Helen Mary Hurley, later Helen Mary Lassonde, born in Concord, New Hampshire on 15 July 1897, daughter of Irish-born Dennis Hurley and Mary Lynch. I do not yet know whether Helen ever applied — that is exactly what I am trying to establish.

I have evidence that at least some of the original General Register volumes survived, so I am hoping someone may know whether they are now held by the National Archives of Ireland, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Justice, or another repository.

Thank you again for taking the time to help. Any lead concerning the actual register books, indexes, or their present location would be greatly appreciated.

Just following up in case anyone with experience in Irish archival records sees this. I am still trying to identify the present location and archival reference for the surviving Irish General Register of Nationals volumes maintained under the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act 1935.

My particular interest is whether an entry survives for Helen Mary Hurley/Lassonde (also possibly Mary Ellen Hurley), born 15 July 1897 in Concord, New Hampshire, or related records concerning her son Arthur Edward Lassonde, born 8 June 1926 in Concord.

I would be especially grateful to hear from anyone who has actually worked with these registers at the National Archives of Ireland, Department of Foreign Affairs, or Department of Justice, or who knows the current archive reference/call number for the surviving volumes.

Even confirmation of which institution currently holds the original volumes would be very helpful. Thank you.
