Hannah Reardon, daughter of Robert Reardon (or Riorden)

Cork

Hi, I'm looking for more informaton about Hannah Reardon (& her ancestors).

I have very little information, just that Hannah was born approx. 1855 in Co Cork, Ireland (she was married in Co Cork Ireland in 1869 to William Butler Unwin, and she died in Brisbane Queensland Australia in 1916). She had a son James (my great grandfather) in Chestershire England in 1873. Hannah and William must have come to Australia sometime after then.

Hannah's father's name was Robert Reardon, I don't have any information on her mother's name, so would love to fill in the family tree gaps.

I looked at the 1852 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Co. Cork and there were four Robert Reardon/Riordans listed. The townland is listed after the first name followed by the civil parish.

GriffithReardonRobert  Water LaneSt. FinbarsCo. Cork

GriffithRiordanRobert   Doneraile, Town Of (Mill View)DoneraileCo. Cork

GriffithRiordanRobert    Park NorthDoneraileCo. Cork

GriffithRiordanRobert    Ballyviniter MiddleMallowCo. Cork

I then looked at Roots Ireland for a baptismal record for Hannah but did not locate one. I did find an 1852 baptismal record for a Jane Reardon/Riordan with a father named Robert in the Mallow RC records. Likely the fourth Robert above. I worked with the indexes and found that her mother's first name was Jane but I could not determine the mother's surname from the indexes.

I pass this record to you as a possible lead in your search.

Thanks so much for this info. Roger, I will certainly use it in my research. However it seems there is conflicting information about the birth year of Hannah, and her father's name.

Is there any way you could point me in the right direction to check if there are records for the following:

  • Birth: Hannah Riorden/Reardon born in 1853 in Fermoy Co Cork, Ireland
  • Father's name: Michael Riorden
  • Marriage: To William Unwin on 20 October 1869 in Cork, Co Cork, Ireland

(Hannah & William had a son before coming to Australia, his name was James Unwin and he was  born 5 December 1873 in Chester, Cheshire, England).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Julie:

Checked Roots. No Hannah Reardon 1848-1858 but I did find a Johanna Reardon/Riordan (father Michael) in the 1853 Mitchelstown RC records. Mitchelstown is to the north of Fermoy.

I could not locate a marriage recor don Roots or in the civil marriage index records.
