Buckley/Murphy Family Millstreet, Cork

Cork

I'm searching for information on Timothy Cornelius Buckley born 4 Oct 1883, Millstreet, Co. Cork to Cornelius Buckley (1844-1915) and Margaret O'Connell (1860 - ?).  His siblings Patrick C. (1872-1948), Hannah M. (1874-1966), John C. (1876-1933) Bartholomew (1878-1937), and Michael his twin (1883-1956).

Both Michael and Timothy mined gold in Alaska.  Timothy returned to Ireland (1926) and married Catherine Abina Murphy (1898-2000). He opened a pub in Cork called 'The Alaska" .

Timothy and Catherine's children, Cornelius (Con), Margaret Mary (Maura), Kathleen (Colleen), Veronica (Sister Teresa), John (Emmett), Barthlolmew (Bart), Ann (Phyllis), emigrated to the U.S.  Timothy and Catherine eventually followed their children and settled in Washington, DC.

Any information regarding the Buckleys would be appreciated.  Thanks, Kim

Hi Kim,

Could you please post your message on the Drishane (Millstreet, Co. Cork) parish page here: http://www.irelandxo.com/group/drishane-cork

There are Roman Catholic church records available for the diocese of Millstreet (Kerry). These date from 1853 for baptismal records and 1855 for marriage records. You can find these at the National Library of Ireland, Pos. 4267, or the Church of Latter Day Saints ref. no. 0883884 item 6; 0883697 2. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for more assistance.

Do you know where in Cork Timothy opened the pub? There is a good chance that someone fromthe area will know about it.

You could try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffth's Valuation (1848-64). Griffith's is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com or here: www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at. Many of these are records particular to Cork.

Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864 however. You can access the website here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm

Have you tried checking the Ellis Island records (www.ellisisland.org) or the Castle Garden records (www.castlegarden.org)? Generally, more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

Kind regards,

I am Timothy's grandson and would love to help where I can. My father was Bart.

I'm trying to locate descendants of my great grandfather,  Michael Buckley, baptized Roman Catholic at Millstreet and Cullen on 1 June 1862 to Patrick and Margaret(Murphy) Buckley. He immigrated to Boston in 1874 and married Elizabeth Flanagan. Their daughter Eva G Buckley was my grandmother.  Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.
