Bridget Morrisy, Cork

Cork

Hi! I am seeking assistance please with records for my great, great grandmother born in Cork. I am visiting Ireland for the first time in June 2026 and would love to visit the town/s where she (and her parents/husband) lived.

These are the details I believe to be correct for her:

Bridget Morrisy, baptised in Blarney 24/5/1829. Her Dad was Francis Morrisy, Mum was Ellen Tuohig. Married Michael Murphy 26/1/1855 in Carraghnavar, Cork.

Bridget and Michael arrived in Australia in 1855 and went on to build a great life and family. My mother, Patricia Murphy, was her great granddaughter.

it would be fantastic to know if her parents, Francis and Ellen, are buried in the Blarney area. Francis and Ellen were married in Glanmire, which I understand is a suburb of Cork City now.

Any advice would be much arreciated!

Michelle:

Carrignavar townland is in the civil parish of Dunbulloge. The RC parish would be Watergrasshill https://corkandross.org/parishes/watergrasshill-glenville Watergrasshill is the RC parish just to the northeast of Blarney. Civil registration of deaths started in 1864 and I don't see a good lead for a record for either Francis or Ellen. Likely they died pre-1864 and Blarney parish did not retain any death records from that time period. Very likely there was no headstone.

Here is the link to our Meet and Greet process https://irelandxo.com/meet-and-greet When you finalize your travel plans and know when you will be in the Blarney area, you can complete the form. The civil parish for Blarney is Garrycloyne.

Dear Eileen, Patricia, Roger and Mary

Thank you so much for your generous replies. They are all very helpful!

I have just booked my hotel in Cork city for three nights, from 10-13 June 2026. I then go onto Limerick to join the first of two organised tours for my remaining 20 nights in Ireland.

Many of my ancestors are clustered around Cork (DNA test says 96% Irish, despite the families coming out to Australia in the 1800s - they liked to keep to their own mob!). So I plan to hire a car on a daily basis to explore relevant towns indicated in the attached picture. I will fill out the form as I am so grateful for your local knowledge.

Thank you again
