Thank you to all who are reading this and contributing. We have found all the obvious American documents. Any American online trees are collaborations or copies of our research. We are hopeful Irish records will help connect both our branches to our common Irish family.
Two distant branches of Nunan Irish immigrants have met up through FamilyTreeDNA. Since nothing to date can be found on Charles Nunan in Ireland, we are hoping to find Timothy Nunan’s family since he is 28 years younger than Charles and chances are slightly better to find Irish records. I am listing the two immigrants and their families below with children as I understand Irish children are often named for parents and grandparents and may be clues.
Charles F. Nunan b. Aug 1815 Mallow, Cork, Ire
Immigrated Oct 1835 to Boston, Massachusetts, USA
Parents: unknown
Married (place and date unknown)
Amelia Susan Tarrant “Emily” b. 1811 Doneraile, Cork, Ire.
Parents: James Tarrant (b. 1753 Ireland) and Mary Gethin Coote (b. 1784 Ballyhooly, Cork, Ire, of Welsh descent).
Ameila’s siblings: Harriet; Charlotte; Richard Gethin.
Tarrant family immigrated together, but no date has been found. It’s not known if Charles knew them and immigrated with them, or met in America.
Children to Charles and Amelia in birth order: Helena F; Richard James; William Howard; Amelia Sofia; Catherine Nickerson; Emily F; Charles F. Jr; George W; Arthur Wellesley; Elisha Freeman.
*Note: Charles great grandson supplied the YDNA.
Timothy Cornelius Nunan b. 1843 Cork, Ire
Immigrated abt 1874 to New York, USA
Father: Cornelius (sourced from Timothy’s death record. May have been Cornelius Timothy or Timothy Cornelius)
Timothy’s sibling: John Nunan
Married about 1875 (New York)
Mary Donovan b. 1851 New York
Parents: Dennis Donovan and Bridget both Irlsh immigrants abt 1845
Mary’s siblings: Dennis Donovan (Jr)
Children to Timothy and Mary in birth order: Catherine Zita; Cornelius; Bridget Adelia; Mary Ellen; James Vincent; Anna L; John Dennis
*Note: Timothy’s great grandson supplied the YDNA. (great-great grandson to Cornelius who is closer in age and maybe the same generation to Charles)
Any and all thoughts on the Nunan family are welcome.
