John Borlas Warren (not Sir John Borlase Warren, Baronet)

CorkKinsale (Cork)

I am looking for my Warren Ancestors.

My great-great-grandmother, Frances Augusta Warren was born/baptised inKinsale, Cork in 1847. I believe her father was John Borlas Warren born in 1799, in Cork, who died in Ontario,Canada in 1879. I have not been able to discover anything more about him, and the only information I have is from a Public Member tree on the Ancestry site whose supporting evidence is from Canadian Records.

I wonder if there are Irish records to verify his birth, and other information such as who his wife was and the identity of his parents.

Regular searches of the Internet bring up references to Sir John Borlase Warren, an English Baronet, who I do not think is my ancestor.

With many thanks in advance

Do you have marriage cert for your Frances Warren, where did she end up ?

There's a marriage in 1867 on the BMD Index of a Frances Augusta Warren, and based on extracted civil records the groom was a Charles Henry Channey/Chauncy (the original may be difficult  to read.). The extracted record shows fathers as Nathaniel Channey and Wm B. Warren. See : here

Thank you for the reply. I think this is the correct name as she definitely married Charles Henry Chauncy. The issue mentioned on the Ancestry family trees are all so different and rarely have much evidence to back them up. I had a quick look for a birth record for William B Warren but could not turn much up. Yet....

Why do different record sets provide such different data? The Ireland, Select Marriages, 1619-1898 names the people you mentioned above, but the Ireland, Civil Registration Marriages Index, 1845-1958 records the couple and two different names George David Claghells Henderson and Catherine Rose Warren - best man and sister??

Thank you for your help.

the additional names you see on the BMD Index are other people with marriages entered on the same page.

The best way to find out more would be to order a research marriage cert from the GRO. These cost €4 once you include the index references - i.e :
.
Name : Frances Augusta Warren
Record Type : Marriage
Year : 1867
Registration District : Macroom
Volume 10 / Page 274

Download the order form from here and print out a copy, fill out your details and the references, tick the 'photocopy' option for research certs, then post or fax the form to the GRO.

I believe William's middle name was probably Bourne, and he died 1869 age about 68 in Co. Cork. He lived at Rose Lodge, which was a house near Ringaskiddy.

Thank you again for all your help.

The reason I thought it was Borlas is because Frances (my g-g-grandmother had a brother with that second name (born 1869). I am researching with my uncle so will ask him what else he knows.

I searched for the other marriage (Warren-Henderson) and noted some transcription differences eg David becomes Daniel and Wm might have altered to John. If I order certificates, will they be photocopies of original documents so I can see what was actually written? Or official typed copies?

I will order them anyway, I think.

research certs are a copy of the register - like a scan/photocopy, so I think is the better option, espcially for difficult placenames etc. Based on the FamilySearch entries I suspect that this marriage entry might be difficult to read, although that might just be due to the Film quality used by them for their transcripts.

The details on Irish civil marriage certs are the same as English ones for that time, date & place of marriage, name of minister/priest/registrar, names & residences for the bride & groom, groom's occupation (sometimes bride's also), ages of the bride & groom .. this is often 'full' i.e. 21 or over, father's names and occupations, and names of two witnesses

Sophie, the John Borlas Warren you refer to is my 3rd great grandfather. He left Ireland in 1821 with his brother, William, and settled in what would become Ontario County, east of Toronto, Ontario. you can refer to my website, shiergenealogy@gmail.com. William and John married sisters whose family name was Lynde.  Roger Shier
