Has anyone heard of "Ballywoden" in or near Ballyvourney Parish, County Cork?
Hello,
I have a marriage record for my gg grandfather, Thomas Michael McCarthy, who married Margaret Twomey in Wilmington, Delware, USA, on 26 Apr 1894. This record indicates that Thomas was 28 years old, son of Denis McCarthy and Hannah Kelleher, and born in "Ballywoden," County Cork, Ireland. It also indicates that his bride Margaret Twomey was 20 years old, daughter of Michael Twomey and Nora Kelleher, born in "Ballywoden," County Cork.
Extensive research on friends and family of Thomas and Margaret has led me to find their baptismal records on RootsIreland.ie:
Thomas McCarthy, son of Denis McCarthy and Joan Kelleher, baptized 1 Dec 1865 in Ballyvourney, Cork, and Margaret Toomy, daughter of Michael Toomy and Honora Kelleher, baptized 19 Jan 1870 in Kilnamaryra, Cork.
I have yet to find any reference to a Ballywoden in the vicinity. Is anyone aware of a townland or area called Ballywoden in or near Ballyvourney Parish?
Thank you very much!
Anita
