My great-grandfather David Barry
Hello,
For more than ten yearsI have been researching my family tree on my mother's side, without a great deal ofsuccess.
The very basic information I had on my Irish great-grandfather David Barrywas from his marriage certificate and some work records. The marriage certificate shows that David was born in Cork and his father's name was Robert.Unfortunately the various records do not all have the same year of birth;there isa variation of up to six years. However the day and month of his birth never varies.
It isonly recently that I have come to the conclusion that abaptism record from The Catholic Parish Registers is most probably the right one: DAVID BARRY BAPTISED 26TH MAY 1838; PARENTS ROBERT BARRY AND ELLEN LEARY.BALLYTRASNA KILMURRY PARISH.Two sisters Anne Barry born 9th Dec 1841 and Norry Barry born 22nd March 1836 are also listed in the same parish with the same parents. I do know that DAVID had an older brother, JOHNwho emigrated to BOSTON US, because my grandmother, Ann Barry went to Boston in 1903 and stayed with her uncle for a few years. From US records I discovered that JOHN was born in Ireland in 1835 and hisparents were Robert Barry and Ellen Leary. To date I have not found a baptism record for John. I have found a marriage record for a Robin Barry and Ellen leary 9th February 1830 Kilmurry parishin the Catholic Registers and have wondered if these are my great- great grandparents.
My great-grandfather DAVID BARRY leftCork for Wales sometime in his youth and became employed as a signalmanwith the Great Western Railways; he married Margaret Barry and settled in Aberbeeg Wales wherethey had eight children; he is buried there.
It would be wonderful If I could find out more about the area of Ballytrasna and maybe one day connect with some relatives.
Any assistance would be very much appreciated.
Thank you
