Information on family of Daniel McCarthy and Margaret Callaghan

Greetings - Daniel McCarthy & Margaret Callaghan were married on 2/7/1864 in Inchigeela.  All records I have been able to attain show they had 7 children:  Johanna - 1864; John 1866; Timothy 1870; Patrick 1872; Michael 1872; Kathleen 1881; Julia 1882. All children were born in Inchigeela except Joanna who was born in Silvergrow.  I show baptism records in Inchigeela for each child except Kathleen and Julia.  I would appreciate finding baptism records for Kathleen and Julia.  I would also appreciate knowing if there were other children born to Daniel and Margaret that I have not listed.  I believe Julia McCarthy to be my Great-Grandmother and would appreciate any further records of her in Ireland.  She immigrated to Boston and I have records from that point on.  Thanks so much.  Shirley

I located a daughter Mary baptized April 11 1877  https://registers.nli.ie//registers/vtls000634160#page/129/mode/1up   Reord was found on the subscription site FindMyPast.ie

The records on the parish register obtained by NLI for Inchigeela/Iveleary parish end on February 4 1881 so there would be no way to find the records for Kathleen and Julia unless Kathleen was born in January 1881 thru Feb. 4 1881. 

You would have to contact the church.

I've found birth records for the following children of Daniel McCarthy and Margaret Callaghan McCarthy of Silvergrove, Inchigeelagh:

  • Johanna b. Dec 10 1864
  • John b. Jun 26 1866
  • Timothy b. Jul 1 1870
  • Patrick b. May 11 1872
  • Michael b. Aug 21 1874
  • Mary b. Apr 10 1877
  • Kathleen (Kate/Katie) b. Mar 7 1881
  • Daniel b. Dec 14 1882
  • Denis b. Oct 27 1884

I have not actually found a birth record for Julia, so would love to know what date you have. Family oral tradition holds there were 13 children, but the 1911 Irish census shared on this site says they had 10, with 9 still living. Julia would make 10 in the list above. 

We believe John (John Daniel) was my gggrandfather and came to the US in 1887 or 1888, later sending money to bring out Michael. John settled in Ventura Co., California by 1890, while Michael was in San Francisco by at least 1902.

Greetings Brian,  The birthdate that I have for Julia McCarthy is December 2, 1882.  Any further information that you can locate for Julia will be most appreciated. A little more information regarding Julia - immigrated to US either 1898 or 1899.  Lived in Boston and married Coleman Costello.  After Coleman's death married Thomas Hughes.  Sometime between 1911 and 1913 moved to San Francisco, CA.  Died 2/2/50 in San Mateo, CA.  

Do you have any further information re: Mary McCarthy such as date and place of death?  Did she immigrate to the US?

Hi Shirley, I was confused as to how Julia could be born just a week or two earlier than Daniel in 1882, but it appears she was actually born in December 1878: https://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/display-pdf.jsp?p…

This makes more sense because it fits within enough plausible time between siblings.

I don't know anything else about Mary beyond the fact that she does still live with the family in Silvergrove in the 1901 Ireland census, but no longer does in the 1911 census.
