Buckley - Coursey - Dromcarra

CorkInchigeelagh (Cork)

My Grandfather John Buckley was born in Dromcarra in 1858 and baptised in Inchigeelagh where his parents were married.

John's parents were John Buckley and Margaret Coursey. They were married in 1854 in Inchigeelagh by Jerimiah Holland. The wedding was witnessed by Denis Kearney and Nelly Buckley.

They had at least 4 children: Denis (b1855), John (b1858), Patrick (b1859 -d1865)  and Margaret (b1861)

I was just there and met with Agnes Buckley who lives in Dromcarra but says that her family isn't actually from Dromcarra. She did tell me that she thinks my Buckleys were dairymen who lived at what was (and still is) Dromcarra House.

Any help with ancestry details of any of these people would be gratly appreciated.

Hi Michael,

I couldn't find the marriage record on either rootsireland or irishgenealogy I'm afraid; does the record you have mention parents' names?

There are 590 Buckleys in Cork in the Tithe Applotments (free online at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/)

including 17 in Inchigeelah 2 of which are Johns. The year isn't given but it would be between 1823-37

There are 11 Courseys in Cork but none in Inchigeelagh.

No luck in the early Irish Censuses.

Griffiths Valuation has 12 Buckleys in Cork parish Inchigeelagh (part of) in 1852 (free at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/)

There are also 5 Courseys in Cork.

Hi MichaelCole I have just come across your post and am very interested in finding out more about you.  I cannot help much with any genealogy questions as I have many unanswered ones myself.  However I do think that we share a Great Grandfather.  My Grandfather was Patrick Buckley, born Dromcarra 1865 to John Buckley and Margaret Coursey.  My Father, also Patrick was born in Dromcarra in 1907.  Looking forward to hearing from you.
