Regan/Manley Dairy Farm - Location for Visit

Dunbulloge (Cork)

I believe that my O'Regan/Regan line comes from the dairy farmers said to be of Dunbulloge, Carrignavar, Cork. Family lore and AI research are aligning, with a handful of guiding documents that have some holes in the evidence. I'd like to visit in 2027 (either Spring or Fall) and see the land, as well as meet any (willing) living relatives to learn more about my Irish roots. John Regan and Mary Keefe were my 5th great grandparents. Their son Michael Regan, b. ~1829 is my immigrant to the USA and his wife was Sarah Ann Flynn of New Market, Cork. His brother Denis Regan married Norah Murphy. It appears that they may have remained in Ireland. AI provided a list of 10 children in that family, but with no source for the record. Denis's marriage record is the source for the potential location, and a Griffith's Evaluation that appears to match. His daughter, MaryEllen Regan was baptised at Glanmire, per a copy of that record, and a letter from the Catholic Parish at Watergrasshill confirmed Michael Regan's Baptism/Birth date, a copy of which was provided to me by a distant DNA relative. The story is that they were one of the largest dairy farmers in Cork, and when a female heir inherited the farm, it was known for her husband's surname, Manley. It is said to have been sold in the 1990s, I believe, and possibly to the local municipality. ?? I have been searching for decades, and in honor of my father (who has passed) and his passion and pride for being Irish, despite little information regarding his roots, I am eager to create the family album of my visit to the Regan origins, to pass on his heritage passion, clearly instilled in him by his ever-adored grandparents. Any resources and assistance of any kind would be most sincerely appreciated. I'll attach a few reocrds that are currently at my fingertips, including a baptism record that I believe must be Michael Regan's sister. Warmest regards, Colleen (nee Regan).

Thank you, Mary!  Clearly Patrick Manley was a very interesting individual! I enjoyed reading the article.   My Denis Regan married Honora Murphy in 1869, so I'm wondering if the connection to the Manley family lies in the Murphy line, since his wife, was it Brigid(?), was a Murphy.

The family story was that a Manley and a Regan married, but maybe it was a Murphy and Regan was an in-law to Murphy, as was Manley.  The typical ancestry tangled web.

Is there anyone who might help with land records?  I have Denis Regan in 1869 living in Carrignavar and farming in his home town of Knocknacoheragh, per the marriage certificate I attached. It indicates that his father, John Regan is deceased at the time, so I'm wondering if there was a farm that he took on.

His brother, Michael P Regan is my direct ancestor and immigrant.  I have attached a Baptism letter regarding his birth that a DNA relative shared years ago. It indicates that Watergrasshill was the family location.  If there is any way of learning more about where the Regans actually lived and farmed, please let me know. I don't know if there are volunteers who can access those records or if I have to write to an establishment and send payment or make a purchase online.

Any guidance would be very much appreciated. And thank you so very much for sharing the article and the records you've provided.  I will be working on making the valid connection between my family and the Manley family - starting with my hunch about the Murphy's and my Denis Regan & Norah Murphy.  Much appreciation! Colleen
