boyle/farmer

CorkCloyne (Cork)

Hi I am trying to find out some information about a Frances Boyle born around 1825, married on 16 September 1850 age 24 to Richard farmer age 29 at Kilshannig Church (not sure if this correct spelling as hard to read on marriage entry) in the Diocese of Cloyne in the county of Cork. Frances's father was Abraham  a weaver, Richards father was Richard a carpenter.

Any help greatly appreciated. Many thanks

Hi,

Thanks for your message.

I think that you have the wrong  parish page. The Dioceses of Cloyne covers most parts of County Cork and it is quite different to the parish of Cloyne which is in in East Cork and is only one of many Catholic parishes that are part of the Diocese.

Here is a link to a map that may help make this clearer:

Kilshannig is a civil parish in Ireland. (It falls under the Catholic parish of Glantane however, which can be seen in purple in the North West of the above map)

Using the civil parish of Kilshannig you could try looking for information on the family in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:

The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp

and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

You could also try looking in some commercial directories seen as their father?s were tradesmen:

You have the correct parish of Kilshannig. It is the name of the protestant parish which is now defunct. You seem to have got a church marriage certificate.

I do not know where Temp Hill is but there were a number of Families named Farmer in the parish. The name Boyle is unusual and her address was Lombardstown which is in the parish ,hence the marriage in Kilshannig church.I notice a Peard was a witness and there was a farmer named Peard in Lombardstown and she may have been a domestic to his family,If she was a Catholic there would be no record of her baptism but Peards were most likely protestant tenants of the Lombard landlords and she was most likely a protestant. As a matter of interest a Lord Boyle was a significant protestant landowner over large properties throughout county Cork . Who knows .

I can search further if you need more info
