Clondrohid Parish, Co Cork
I have been researching the name LUCEY and its variations for some years. The task is quite daunting as it becomes difficult sorting out who belongs to whom in this family. I have consulted the 1831 tithe defaulters for Clondrohid parish and the 1834 Clondrohid tithe applotment list which shows multiple Luceys on several townlands. In particular I am interested in the Jeremiah at Glaunanary, Bawnatanaknock, Glautane West and Glaundave (spellings ??). Another I am interested is the Patrick at Bawnatanaknock and Curraghleigh.
According to Casey (O'Kief, Coshe Mang, Slieve Lougher and Upper Blackwater report "Darby" Lucey of Kilgobbenett, Co Cork, parish of Clondrohid was granted a 31 year lease at Bawnatanaknock in 1778 so my guess is that 1778 is the first year of Lucey's occupation at that townland. However it is not so clear how the Luceys were connected to Kilgobbenett (Kilgobnet) and from what date. (1) I was wondering if anyone might have any information that will help me to get a handle on this family name and the connection to Kilgobnet? (2) Is there any way to find out if the other Luceys ie. Daniel, Denis, James, Michael (1831 defaulters) and the Daniel, Darby, Denis, James, John and Patrick (1834 applotment list) are connected? I am aware also of Cornelius, Daniel, Denis, James and a Charles Lucey in the Clondrohid 1766 religious Census. Whether they are the same people as those mentioned in the 1831 and 1834 lists, I just do not know. Any views? Ray ThurlowBrisbane, Queensland, Australia
