Menagh Family in Bandon, Cork

CorkBandon (Cork)

I am doing some research on my Menagh familiy who lived in Bandon 1880-1912 before the entire family moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. They were originally from Belfast but Thomas Menagh, the patriarch, got a job as an accountant at a Bandon distillery (not sure which one - could be Allman's?). My great-grandmother, Sarah Ethel, was born in 1881 on "The Terrace" in Bandon and the family also lived on Kilbrogan Place. I can't find either of these roads on ordnance surveys or modern maps of the town. The family belonged to the Church of Ireland and likely lived near Christ Church and Kilbrogan Road, though I have no solid proof of this. Thomas' wife, Maria, died in 1910 at 4 Knockrea Terrace in "rural County Cork." Another road I cannot find in Bandon or surrounding areas though I founda Knockrea Terrace in Cork city - not exactly rural today though it could have been at the time. Does anyone know where these phantom roads are? Any help would be appreciated! I can share copies of the bible record for the family and other documents and photos with anyone interested.

The 1910 death took place in a Cork City registration district, so could not have been in Bandon, so I'd say the Knockrea Terrace you found in the City is the right one. The terrace was in the suburbs by the 1890s (OSI Historic map),  but the area would probably have been rural when the districts were originally set up - see the same location c1840.

This slightly later registration district map (logainm.ie / Placename Database) shows the Cork Rural Registration Sub-district surrounding the city.

spdrury I’m in Bandon a grandson of the youngest Menagh Kilbrogan Place is not a street but an actual house 200-300 meters past Copper Grove restaurant up the hill.  The whole family moved sometime in 1890’s to 9 clancool rd (terrace).  My granny Maud Elizabeth Menagh Was there according to 1901 census along 4 sisters and 1 brothers.  Sarah,Henry,Sofia,Frances,Susan and Maud.  The houses are still there with very friendly owners.   Granny Betty was very big in my brother and sister and my life and I can remember her talking about the Drurys
