Hornibrook Family

Bandon (Cork)

Hi, Looking for any relatives related to the Hornibrook family from the Brandon, Callitrim , Cork area. A branch of the family moved to Australia in the mid 1800s.

Would love to know if any distant cousins are left in the area or maybe in the USA somewhere.

Thanks

Visiting the area in mid to late June 2025

Hi, If you go to Facebook and search on the name Hornibrook, you will see several Hornibrooks who live in Cork. You can then send them a message through their FB pages. Good luck.

Thanks Patricia. What a great thought. Will give it a go.

The more usual spelling of the townland is Callatrim, it's located a short distance north of the town of Bandon, and both are within the civil parish of Kilbrogan.

Griffith's Valuation shows about 25 properties with the surname Hornibrook[e] within the parish - most split between the townlands of Callatrim and Coolfadda, and smaller numbers in Kilbrogan and Knockbrogan townlands. The valuation is dated December 1851 for this area.

At the time of the 1911 census there are just two people with the surname in the area - at Knockbrogan townland a Widow Mary and her son Daniel.

Thanks Shane for your reply.

I am not surprised by that information as by then the family seems to have reestablished themselves in Australia.

I have traced a Mary Connor 1848 to 1923 , wife of Thomas Hornibrook . This maybe the same Mary but not sure.

I will do some more research to see if i can get a match up.

Appreciate your input.

Question How do we get an Ireland XO meeting arranged when we are in the area?

Regards

Kevin

Many thanks Eileen. What a find .

Mary Connor is the wife of my wife 2nd great grand uncle!!!

We are both looking forward to coming to the area where her ancestors came from before they emigrated to Australia.

Thomas is the husband of my wife grand uncle . His wife Lillian Amelia Buchan is the sister to my wife grandmother Ella Buchan.

Great to have all this information.

My wife has this on her Ancestry tree under Tidey Family tree.

Cheers

Kevin

One more for you - marriage of Thomas and Mary at Kilbrogan Church of Ireland (Bandon) in 1870 - groom's residence Callatrim and his father Thomas, the bride's residence Kilbrogan and her father Timothy.
