Crowley connections

Bandon (Cork)

Hi looking for any conections hopefully back in Ireland to my distant relatives, G Gf Jeremiah Crowley, b about 1842 in Bandon Co Cork, his Father (GGF) was Timothy d1864 also from Bandon, his Mother (GGM) was Mary b1807 nee Linahan possibly from Waterford,

Jeremiah moved to Wales where he and Mary married there was a witness to the marriage a Ann Murphy who was a neighbour who also came from Bandon, they married in Cardiff where they resided till his death in 1910.

Other family members were Ellen b1865, Patrick b1868, Peter b1870, Jeremiah Joseph b1874.

There was a story where one of the family members fell down the side of the boat at the harbour and was crushed to death, im not sure if this is correct or not, i would appreciate any help or info anyone should have to offer, regards John

Kindly clarify...was Jeremiah's wife Mary Lenihan or his mother? You mention that Jeremiah and Mary got married in Wales. But you also say Mary Lenihan was his mother. Thank you!

In the 1871 UK census, Jeremiah Crowley and Mary Lenihan had three children, as shown. Neither of the sons is called Timothy, which is unusual, as Irish naming patterns called for the first son to be named after the paternal grandfather.  Are you sure Jeremiah’s father was a Timothy?

Ancestry trees show his first wife was Mary Linahan, and his second wife was Winifred Holland. I haven't explored them fully to verify, but you might check there if you have access. The tree I viewed has his marriage record showing his father is Timothy, and this same tree shows that his youngest son by Winifred was named Timothy (aka Edward Crowley). Not sure why the AKA. I searched the church records tab of irishgenealogy.ie for his baptism in the RC parish of Bandon which does have records for that year, but found nothing. There were three marriage records in the late 1830's for a Timothy Crowley marrying three different Marys though - a Sullivan, Regan, and McCarthy. However, not finding his baptism record makes me wonder if this is the correct parish. The England/Wales census records show he was from Bandar...is that where you are getting Bandon from?

Ancestry does have a two week free trial.

Carolyn
