COAKLEYS OF CORK - Bandon, St Finbars Cork

CorkBandon (Cork)St Finbars (Cork)Timoleague (Cork)

My great grandfather was John Joseph COAKLEY, born 1853 at Bandon. His parents were John COAKLEY (farmer) and Ellen MURPHY. They were married in 1845 at Timoleague but I am not sure when they died. I have found the deaths of a John Coakley (1875) and Ellen Coakley (1888) at the Cork Workhouse and bought their death certificates. Their ages are about right. I fear they could be my G grandparents as their respective fathers' names are the same names as their first and second born sons (Matthew Coakley and Timothy Murphy). Of course, this could be a coincidence. I would like to know for sure.

John and Ellen had six sons, the other five are: Matthew - 1847 Ballinhassig; Timothy - 1850 Bandon (Stevedore); Jeremiah - 1855 Ballinhassig; Charles - 1858 St Finbars Cork South (believed to has emigrated to USA); Paul Peter - 1863 St Finbars Cork South (Stevedore - emigrated to Australia in 1909 and died there in 1910).

I would really love to be able to fill in more details regarding my g grandfather's parents and siblings and would apprciate any advice / information as to how to proceed further.

Thank you

I am related to a Margaret Coakley who was married to my great-great-grandfather, James Heffernan, who was born about 1830 and died 8 April 1883 in Cork. Their son, Edward Heffernan, is my great-grandfather and his son, James Heffernan was my grandfather. They were all from St Finbarr’s parish. My grandparents emigrated to the U.S. in 1922-23.

I have no other information about my great-great-grandparents. Might we be related?
