Michael Barrett and Mary Tobin
My G G Grandparents were Michael Barrett and Mary Tobin who were married in Aghada 25 Aug 1832. They came to Australia arriving 2 May 1855 on the "Bermondsey". Passenger manifests suggest Mary Tobin was born circa 1810 and that her parents were Maurice Tobin and Bridget Fitzgerald. I have located Mary's Baptism on rootsireland as follows; Name: Mary Tobin, DOB: (blank), Date of baptism: 5 Mar 1810, Address: C Crump, Parish/District: Aghada, Gender: Female, County: Co Cork, Denomination: Roman Catholic, Father: Maurice Tobin, Mother: Bridget Fitzgerald, Occupation (blank) Informant 1: James Foulowe, Sponsor 2: Mary Watts. As I am visiting Cork this year I am keen to learn more about Mary and where she might have lived. I don't understand what "C Crump" means as an address on the baptism registration? On Mary's marriage registration it gives her address as "The Union" which I am advised may refer to the 'Union of Aghada Parishes' (eg Inch, Trabolgan, Kilteskin, etc)? Is there anyone who could assist me in getting a little closer to the "Tobins". I know Mary's parents were deceased by the time they arrived here, but whether there are other descendants alive today I just don't know.Mary died in Sydney in 1878 (aged abt 68 years), outliving her husband Michael by 5 years. Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated. Regards Paul from Sydney Australia.
