Visiting Tulla Clare and contacting the local TullaX

ClareTulla (Clare)

Hello to all the Tulla and Clare Diaspora:

As part of the local Tulla Reaching Out committee, I would like to make all our members aware that we are more than delighted to meet with any Tulla diaspora visitors who find themselves in Tulla, or in Clare.

Please feel free to contact us directly at:  tulla@irelandxo..com with your Tulla connections so that we may assist you as local members on the ground.

We look forward to connecting and reconnecting one and all with their Tulla ancestry.

Good afternoon, Jane and staff at Ireland XO.

My daughter and I are planning to visit Tulla and maybe Ennis if time allows, in April.

My ancestor's Shipping records, state Tulla as the place from which they left, at about 1853 - 54 as young men. Laborers and farmers.

The young women of their family were already in Australia, Sydney and Melbourne, when the boys arrived in Australia.

I don't know how they funded their passages to Australia.

It would be very interesting to add to their stories from any available sources at Tulla or Ennis. Local sources would be very valuable if they exist.

I'm sure that their stories were the same as many others in that area following the potato failures. The young men tried goldfields in California, and New Zealand before the Australian Goldfields where they soon purchased farming land.

I'm hoping to discover traces of their families in the old Tulla cemetery. Is there a cemetery record for the old cemetery, or perhaps for Ennis Cemetery also?

Their parents' Names are: Thomas and Catherine and John and Margaret Dwyer (ODwyer), Molony (Dennis and Mary)

Some years back, Ireland XO researchers kindly found some family Church records of baptisms and marriages which I'll revisit, but since then I've found the Tulla origins which narrows the search. Looking forward to a day in Tulla and exploring the cemetery and township.

Any insights which you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou and kind regards, Rose (Roisin).
