Carley-O'Loughlin

ClareKilmanaheen (Clare)

I’m really uncertain with the geopolitical divisions in Ireland, tho' I do know - Province: Munster, County: Clare... Then the confusion sets in for me!! Baronies, Unions, Parishes, Townlands!!! Ennistimon appears to be both a Union and a Townland!?

My 2GGrandfather, Peter Carley only has 'Innes Diamond' on his death certificate, which I believe to be ENNISTIMON, Co Clare, but has KILMANAHEEN (Co Clare) in the Kew Asylum books, as his birthplace.(Only Co Clare is listed on his daughter, Roseann’s birth certificate.)

Peter Carley’s wife Margaret McMahon has a sister, Elizabeth who married a Patrick O’Halloran in the KILFENORA parish Church in Feb 1845, however, Peter and Margaret were married in Melbourne, 14/9/1852.

Peter Carley’s father is also Peter, and his mother is listed as Ann O’Loughlin(on his death cert.), and we know he has a brother John and Austin (from their Probate & Wills), and perhaps a sister Margaret… However, Austin’s mother is listed as ELLEN McLochlan on his death Index!

I’ve trawled many Clare sites but can’t find Carley anywhere, and as you would know, I’m getting WAY too many McMahons to make any sense of!

Would LOVE to get confirmation and evidence of Peter Carley's Birth & or Baptism about 1826!

Hi Clare,

Thanks again for your message.

I have also responded to your message on the Kilfenora parish page. As I mentioned there, Ennistimon is a townland/town in Kilmanaheen parish, so this is why both place names appear in Peter?s record.

To see what parish records are available in Kilmanaheen parish follow this link:

http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Clare&parish=Kilmanaheen&churchid=621

As most records are still held locally, it may be a good idea to write to the parish priest for possible assistance.

In my previous message to you, I also gave you some links and suggestions that you may find helpful. Here is a link to that message:

It may also be an idea to contact Clare Heritage Centre for assistance:

Hello !

I just discovered a second obituary for my great-great grandmother in a newspaper archive in Wisconsin, USA. This second obituary has a lot of information !

I am looking for a marriage record in Ireland for my ancestor, Marie Bourke, born in Monreel County Clare, Ireland on January 28, 1824 or 1825. She married my great-great grandfather , Ross Michael O'Loughlin (born in Ennystymon, Clare, Ireland in 1820), on April 27, 1842. They had 2 children in Ireland, James Francis b. 1944 and Susan b. 1846. They immigrated to America in August, 1854 settling in Detroit, Michigan for 2 years before moving to Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin in 1856. Leaving Ireland in 1854 must have been very difficult. The first US census in which they appear, they are living in a shanty. I am so proud to say that the O'Loughlin family, my family, eventually owned their own farm in Wisconsin !!

Any help finding Marie and Ross's marriage record would be very much appreciated.

Sending good wishes from the US,

Molly Green Schwall
