Looking for Collins Family in Clare

Killaloe (Clare)

I think we have found my husband's grandfather's baptism record on ancestry Irish Parish Records, but cannot find the exact place it now is. The Ancestry record summary says:

Name: Timothy Collins

Event Type: Baptism

Baptism and Birth Dates: 27 Jul 1871

Baptism Place: Kilfaddane, Clare, Ireland

Parish Variants: Coolmeen, Kilfidane

Dioces: Killaloe

Father: John Collins

Mother: Mary Culligan (record says Cullifan, but we know it is Culligan).

The actual written record shows the town as Carrowreagh West.

(Timothy's older Michael Collins, 1867, shows Kildysart as the parish of his birth.)

We are planning a trip to Ireland this Fall, and would really love to find the town, maybe church. Could anyone help me with this?

Maley,

You can simply do a search for the town land Carrowreagh West or look at www.townlands.ie to find out more about it. The town land is located in the southern part of County Clare. I did not find any Collins family in the 1901 or 1911 census records in Carrowreagh West. The paid site, Roots Ireland, shows two sisters as well - Margaret Collins baptized 6 Jun 1870 and Helen Collins baptized 13 Sep 1874. Both births show Carrowreagh West as their residence.

Website for Cranny/Coolmeen RC parish  https://kilfidaneparish.com/  Likely your ancestors would have gone to Cranny church.

Thank you Carolyn and Roger. I will look at those websites for more information. And I hope to find more info on the church. I am a bit confused about connecting the baptism record to the exact church it happened. I see the actual record, but it is not apparent which church it was. It would be wonderful it if was the Cranny church, as the website shows it was constructed in 1832, and is still there. That would be wonderful to see.

Also, confused about how to superimpose current town names over the area of the townland. I have seen maps of Carrowreagh West, but not sure what current towns would be there, if any.

This Collins Family left Ireland around 1880 when the two sons were young. I found the information on the two sisters being born, but the family has no information on them after they came to U.S., so I am assuming that the two sisters died as infants, before they left. I do not have any idea how to find death notices for parishes during that time frame.

And I am sorry that my sign in name is Maley 1846. Without thinking, I put in my name and the year my father's family immigrated to the U.S. I know it is a sad year for Ireland, and I wish I had not picked that as my name.

Maley,

The free site irishgenealogy.ie has a death record, with no image available for a Margaret Collins, RC district Kildysart, age 0 in 1870. So, she probably died as an infant. I did not find one for Helen, so possibly she emigrated too. Civil death records began in 1871, and that is probably why no image of Margaret's death is online.

Carrowreagh West is the name of the town (town land).....it is not an area with towns within it.

Regards,

Carolyn

Thank you! That clears up the mystery of Margaret. It appears that the first two children, Michael and Margaret, were listed as Kildysart. And the second two, Timothy and Helen, were listed as Carrowreagh West. So they may have moved. Helen was born in 1874. So I will look for a civil death record for her. Thanks so much for this help.
