Griffey/Griffin, Harkins, MIniter, Conole, Kinnane, Maloney
I am seeking possible information on three of my great grandparents who were born in County Clare and migrated to the US in the mid-1800's. The first is Hannah Kinnane (1858-1919) who was the daughter of Patrick Kinnane ((1818-1889) and Catherine Maloney. Hannah immigrated to the US about 1868 with her father and siblings, John, Michael, Margaret and Catherine. We have assumed that her mother died in Ireland before the family emigrated since there is no record of her in the US. Based on my DNA matches, it seems that many of the other Kinnane's immigrated to Australia.
The second is Bridget Harkins (1852-1920), daughter of Michael Harkins and Margaret Griffey. I have been told that MIchael Harkins worked in a restaurant in Roadford and that Margaret (Peggy) Griffey was a sibling to Jeremiah Darby Griffey. After their marriage, Michael and Peggy lived on a Griffey property in Ballyvara. We believe that Peggy died in Ireland and Bridget immigrated with her father about 1870. Hannah had three brothers, Martin, Daniel and Thomas. We believe that Hannah Kinnane and Bridget Harkins may have known each other (or their families did) because Hannah's son and Bridget's daughter married in the US even though they lived some distance from one another.
The final great grandparent is John F Miniter (1848-1915). His parents were John Miniter and Bridget Connole. I know the least about his ancestry but he immigrated in 1864 and had four siblings, Bridget, Patrick Henry, Thomas and James. The sister, Bridget, married in Lisdoorvarna to James Fitzpatrick (a widower with a son, James) before immigrating to the US in 1867. The witnesses at her wedding were listed as Darby Griffey and Bridget Griffey, so there seems to be connection to the Griffey family mentioned above.
I will be stopping in Doolin on a trip to Ireland this summer so I am hoping to get more perspective on these great grandparents before then.
