Fennell-County Clare

Clare

My Great Great Grandfather was Edward Fennell. He married Bridget Keane & they had 7 children-John, Edward Michael, Bridget, Catherine, Eleanor, Mary, & Patrick. They lived in County Clare. My Great Grandfather was

John Fennell. He came from Ireland to NY in 1920. He met my Great Grandmother, Susan Brennan (who came NY from Scotland in 1921).

They married & had 3 children-Catherine, Eileen, & Edward (my grandfather).

I have information my cousins have given me but there are gaps. I’m missing birth & death dates & marriage dates. I would also like to connect

with my Fennell family members who are still living.

Please see attached 1911 Irish census record. Are they your relatives?

Southernmema,

Attached is John Fennell's civil birth record to Ned Fennell and Bridget Keane. Additionally, attached is Edmond (Ned) and Bridget's marriage record in 1874 that shows their father's names.The 1901 census is also attached. Bridget was a widow with six children living in the town land of Ross. Edmond Fennell died in 1899.

The original name of Ross was Rose. If you look at Griffith's Valuation records for Rose, it is all Fennell names - 18 of them. Bridget was from the town land of Kiltrellig which borders Rose (Ross), and the Griffith's records show many Keanes there. Both town lands are in the RC parish of Carrigaholt and Kilballyowen, and their baptism records begin in 1853, so you might be able to find records for Edmond and Bridget.

Carolyn

Thank you! I will research on the Griffith's Valuation that you mentioned, Carolyn. I have found a lot of information about Edmond's family. Now I am trying to find information on his parents. All I know is his father's name was Patrick (Patt) Fennell and his mother's name possibly could have been Ellen. I have zero information on either of them. No birth dates, marriage date, or death dates. I checked the 1901 and 1911 census'[s and came up with nothing.

Hello,

Attached are possibly Patrick Fennell's death record and his mother Bridget's death record....you will see that the person at her death was her grandson, Edmund. The record shows that her husband's name was Thomas. If Patrick was born prior to 1853, it will be difficult to find his mother's name. There is a Patrick Fennell born in 1854 in that same RC parish with a father named Patrick and a mother named Bridget Behan....this record came up on Ancestry. However, you think that his mother is named Ellen. Given that Edward and Bridget did not name any of their daughters Ellen, I wonder if that is correct about her being his mother. Thomas Fennell is in the Griffith's Valuation (1855) in the town land of Ross.

Regards,

Carolyn
