James Smith and Ann/Nancy Cooney County Cavan

Cavan

Please see message below from Bill Comerford.

Researching my 3x Great Grandparents James Smith and Ann/Nancy Cooney from county Cavan. The information I have is from US sources. I am unsure of their religion however their daughter Catherine my 2x Great Grandmother married and children were baptized Catholic in Massachusetts.

I have not had any luck searching in Ireland for their baptisms 1795-1815 or marriage 1820-1840. The earliest record I am confident in for James and in is the 1860 US Census. Also found in US were three daughters born in Ireland. Susan born about 1839, died in US 1920. Catherine born about 1842, died in us 1909. Alice born about 1845, died unknown. Leading me to narrow down their arrival in US to between 1845 and 1860. I have an unverified US Naturalization for James that he migrated in 1847.

James was born about 1806 in Cavan. Parents were James Smith and Mary maiden name unknown. He died 1866 in Massachusetts.

Ann was born about 1807 in Cavan. Parents were Patrick Cooney and Julia maiden name unknown. Ann died 1865 in Massachusetts. I did find an 1821 county Cavan Census townland Clinticart and parish Crosserlough. Unverified as mine, but possible, Ann Cooney age 14, parents Patrick and Judith. By the way I could not find Clinticart or anything similar in Ireland townlands.

As always thank you for your assistance. Bill

Roger,

Thank you. I won't argue with you about Kilnacrott, but that looks nothing like what is on the census. Maybe an Irish pronunciation I just don't understand.

Any luck on finding any church records for James and Ann or the three children I identified? I have had no luck on "find my past" and Crosserlough on NLI available starting in 1843. I find a few Smiths but not James. Where I thought I might at least find Alice estimated birth 1845.
