Did families tend to stay in the same area?

I am using DNA matches to search for my 3X great Grandparents. My 2X great grandfather is Patrick Rodgers, born around 1840. DNA matches suggest he is either a son of Patrick Rodgers and Mary Martin from Bailieboro in County Cavan, but he could also be a nephew. So my question is - if he is a nephew of this couple from Bailieboro, how likely is it that his parents are also from Bailieboro?

At the time, most families stayed in the same area. But more research would be needed to say that your Rodgers stayed put. Do you have a marriage or death record for your Patrick that gives his parents' names? That might help.

I wish I had documentation about his parents, but I do not. This is why I am using DNA matches.
