The Callahan/Callaghans/O’Callaghans of County Cavan
The Australian branch of this family have never been able, as far as I know, to trace the origins of the
family. What we know, (or think we know), is as follows:
John Philip Callaghan
(1801 Co Tipperary D c1875 in Co Cavan
Children (who came to Australia)
1 Frances Elizabeth - born 1819, Co Cavan.
(Married)

-
2 Philip - born 1820, Templeport Co Cavan. . [The ‘Templeport’comes from Philip’s son William’s (1855-1929) B/C]. Arrived Port Phillip Bay 28 May 1841 on Neptune as an ‘Assisted Migrant’. 5 Susan – born 1827, Co Cavan.

Susan died on 31 Jan1902 in Geelong, Victoria. An important clue is that her cousin Patrick Fox was with her on the trip.
[Patrick Fox died in Echuca, Victoria on 20 March 1913. On his Death Certificate it says he was born in Templemore Co Cavan, that he was 81/2 years old and that he had been 66 years in Victoria). This means he was born c1831/32. {The Riverine Herald of 22 March 1913, says he was 83 which means born 1830.}. The certificate also says his father was James Fox, a farmer and Mary Fox (formerly Moore). This would seem to indicate that he was the son of Bridget Frances Moore’s (above) sister, Mary. Patrick Fox married Bridget Ann Kitson (1828-1923) on 15 Jun 1858 in Geelong Victoria. Bridget was born in Quinn, Co Clare. They had eight children.] -
