Belturbet, County Cavan

Hi Louise

There is a burial / death record of William Dale 1879 Cavan on www.rootsireland.ie/

It gives his age as 34. The parish is ANNA C of I; I'm not sure of the parents' names or cause of death would be on the record but you need to purchase credit to view the records on rootsireland

I couldn't find any of the other records such as William's birth / marriage , Eliza's birth or the marriage of Moses & Elizabeth

Hi Louise

Welcome to the joys and frustrations of Irish genealogy!!

I had a look at the death record of W D and it is as you said - William Dale age 34

address Belturbet Co Cavan Denom C of I sex Male; graveyard & informant are not filled in.

But it does have date of death 27 Oct 1879 & ceremony performed by Thomas Jackson

I assume you are in Canada so have a rum & egg-nog - I enjoyed them when I lived in B C.

Merry Christmas!

Louise,

Griffiths Valuation for 1857 lists just one Adam Dale in Belturbet. He lived on plot 38 on Holborn Hill, which was a house, outbuildings, a yard and small garden. He also had a separate piece of land on Black Bog where he cut his turf (peat).

I can?t see a death listed for him so he probably died before 1864 (which is when death registration began).

Possible marriage for William Dale to Eliza Lamb was registered in Cavan town 1868, vol 13, page 71.

You can order a photocopy from GRO Roscommon for ?4 per certificate. Put the place, year, quarter (where there is one), volume & page number on the application form (anywhere). Don?t worry about leaving some boxes blank. You don?t need to fill them all in if you have the reference details. http://www.groireland.ie/ You have to post or fax the form to them but they will e-mail the copy certificate to you if you wish. Tick the relevant box on the form.

Tradition was to marry in the bride?s church (assuming the couple attended different churches) so that may be the place to look for the bride?s baptism and that of any siblings. Unless it was a registry office marriage, the specific church and denomination will be on the certificate.

If you want to find out William?s cause of death, and who the informant was, then you need to order  a copy of the death certificate. The transcript on the rootsireland site doesn?t contain all the information on the atcual death certificate.

The details are: Cavan town, Oct ? Dec 1879, Vol 3, page 61. (Order from GRO Roscommon as per the marriage above).
