HOPKINS of Eagle Hill, Hacketstown, Co. Carlow

Carlow

I descend from the Protestant Hopkins of Corndog, Co. Wicklow.

The Hopkins of Eagle Hill were Roman Catholic andthus I had put them on the "back burner". However I revisited the Hacketstowm RC records and I discovered that there were lots of entries concerning families who resided at townlands such as Kyle, Carrickrow, Slieveroe, etc, all in and around Corndog.  I am now convinced that the Eagle Hill Hopkins were descended from the Corndog Hopkins but married into the Catholic faith at Hacketstown.

A Catherine Hopkins of Corndog was a sponsor for a Hacketstown baptism of 1840.  I "suspect" that this Catherine (perhaps RC? by birth) was married to a John Hopkins of Corndog who emigrated to Canada with my ancestors!  No proof but ....

Any help would be welcome...

The Eagle Hill branch begins with a Benjamin Hopkins (1817-1883) who married Margaret KIng (1816-1881) in 1835 at Hacketstown.
