Hugh Ranton/Renton

ArmaghNewry (Armagh)

Looking for information on Hugh Ranton (have seen it also spelt as Renton) born 1836 believed to have beenfrom Newry. Came to Australia on the Gypsy Bride in about 1855. Had a brother called Thomas who also came out to Australia.

Hi Kay

There are 6 Renton birth/baptism records of Renton & variations on in Down on www.rootsireland.ie/:

None is from Newry however:

William John Rantin 1855

Eliza Jane Ranton 1858

Margaret Shaw Rantin 1862

James Henry Ranton 1864

Mary Florence Ranton 1889

Edith Ervine Renton 1891

No Hugh or Thomas I'm afraid.

findmypastireland has a record of Hugh Renton 1860 Land & Estates Shankill Antrim + 4 other references but it costs to view the details.

The Tithe Applotments (1823-37) have no Rentons but Griffiths Valuation (1848-64 & free online) has 6 - 4 in Down & 2 in Antrim including a Hugh.

There is a Lesley McCarthy tree on ancestry.com which has Hugh born in Newry 1835 but does not give a source of this information.
