George & Bridget McDowell Records

Armagh

Trying to locate any records for George McDowell and/or Bridget Norman (McDowell), my Gr Gr Grandparents.

Their children, at least some born in County Armagh, Ireland, are listed in order below.

Subsequent census records in the USA specify Northern Ireland, and they are of the Catholic religion.

Bridget McDowell's date of birth is calculated as 1827, per the ship's passenger list below.

Ann Eliza(possibly Elizabeth) McDowell, possibly born in Derrynoose, Co Armagh, 1861.

Her name also appears as Eliza(beth) Anne on later records in the USA.

Bernard abt 1863, unknown location

Thomas abt 1865, unknown location

Mary (Minnie) abt 1867, unknown location

Rose abt 1869, unknown location

George William McDowell abt 1870, unknown location - This is my Gr Grandfather, he appears one time on an 1895 New Jersey census as Geo Wm McDowell Jr.

The family emigrated to the USA aboard the SS Europa in 1872, sailing from Moville, Ireland to Glasgow, Scotland and arriving in New York City, New York on November 27,1872. Only Bridget McDowell and the above children are listed on the arriving passenger list.

This is unbelievable! Thank y'all so much for all the replies and record links. It is just astounding to have this information finally.

Obviously, I need to be using Roots Ireland.

Patricia,

Regarding the question about whether Bridget was ever called Ellen?

Not to my knowledge, I've only seen her name as Bridget on all the records I had of her.

I've never seen any records with her middle name so perhaps it is Ellen.

Thank y'all again for all your help with this today. I hope I'll be able to sleep a bit tonight.
