Sources for late 1600's? - Litle family

Antrim

Are there any books or sources for Skerry history in the late 1600's. I am related to Hennry Litle and son Thomas Little, who left there for America around 1700. My understanding was that Hennry was born in Scotland, but have no other info.

Sadly there are no church records for Skerry in the 1600s and early 1700s. (The earliest records start in 1805).

It’s quite possible that Hennry was born in Scotland. Huge numbers of Scots settled in Co Antrim all through the 1600s. But we have no individual records of who they were. Skerry to the Ayrshire coast is about 25 miles. It wasn’t a big journey.

Thanks! Another source says Thomas was a ten year old son of Thomas Little who was supposedly a tax collector that absconded with the tax money when he set sail for the American colonies in 1737. Is there a good place to look for that scandal?

Piggyfetch,

I think it’s too long ago for there to be any record. The Belfast Newsletter started in 1737. (It’s the oldest newspaper in the world still in existence). You could search it on one of the Newspaper archive sites but that’s about all I can think of.
