Mary Elizabeth Greene

Antrim

Searching for an ancestor who might have been born in "North" Ireland according to the 1930

Fed US census . Family lore says she was born in Ireland but raised in Scotland. She was born in 1858 and she married in 1881 Glasgow. The Family name is quite common in County Antrim. Can anyone provide me a list of Parishes in that county? This a wild shot. I would greatly appreciate it.

Here’s a map with all the parishes in Co Antrim but you are going to need Mary's parents names to trace her.

Who did Mary marry? Her Scottish marriage certificate should tell you her parent's names and that should help trace her in Ireland. Do you have a copy? (The certificate will also tell you whether her parents were alive or dead in 1881).

Also she could be in the 1881 Scottish census and that should show whether she was born in Ireland.

To assist volunteers, record from Ancestry. As Elwyn mentioned the Glasgow marriage record would be helpful.

A tree on Ancestry shows this as her death record. Some trees show James as her father??

James Green married Elizabeth McMullen on 30.3.1854 at Boveva(gh) Church of Ireland, Co Derry. His address was Burnfoot (parish of Boveva) and Elizabeth’s was Ardinarive (parish aforesaid).

Mary appears to have had a brother William b c 1855. Some of the family had moved to Scotland by the 1861 census and the father James appears to have died in Glasgow in 1884. He was reportedly baptised at Bovevagh Presbyterian church in 1832. His parents are recorded on some trees as Hugh Green and Mary Fowler. (That probably comes from his Scottish death certificate). Brother William appears to have married Ann McIntyre in Scotland in 1875 and then emigrated to Australia sometime soon after his father’s death in 1884. He appears to have died in Australia.

Mary Green's marriage in Scotland to Hugh Wilson was in 1879 not 1881. (GROS ref 644/9/154). You can view all the Scottish certificates on the Scotlandspeople site for a small fee:
