Gamble Family in and around Armoy

AntrimArmoy (Antrim)

I am seeking more information on the Gamble family in and around Armoy. The information I have is as follows:

James Gamble (b. abt. 1829) m. Ellen Smith (b. abt. 1831) on 9 Sep 1845 in Armoy. They had for children: James Gamble (b. 1862; m. Rose McKillop (b. 1857... the couple married after they were in America), Ellen Gamble (b. abt. 1866), and Edward Gamble (b. abt. 1876). I also believe they had a daughter, Jane Gamble (b. 1849). I assume there must have been more children considering their wedding date being 1845 and then the three children I find 2-3 decades later.

I would like to confirm a possible child, George Gamble (probably born abt. 1855). George married Mary M'Kendry (McKendry) on 25 Jun 1875 in Ballycastle, and had a daughter, Jane Gamble (b. 1884). Jane came to America in 1905 alone, and resided with my 2nd great grandfather for a bit upon her arrival. She is listed as his niece.

I would also like any information about James and Ellen (Smith) Gamble. I am also seeking information about the McKillops, but I will create a separate post with details I have about this family. Would love to connect with cousins still in the area!

The family were members of St. Patrick's Church in Loughguile. I was able to visit the church during a trip to Northern Ireland in 2022 and discovered many McKillops still attend the church today, but the person I spoke with didn't have any information of Gamble's.

I appreciate any assistance! Thank you!

Jkg0679,

The paid site, Roots Ireland, shows this information for the marriage of James Gamble and Ellen Smith:

9 Sep 1845, Moyle parish COI, residence - both Armoy

James' father - Andrew Gamble (pauper), Ellen's father - Edward Smith (labourer)

Witnesses - Thomas Sharpe and Alexander McAuley

Their ages shown are 21 (Edward) and 19 (Ellen), thus birth years are earlier than you wrote above....1824 & 1826 are their birth years.

Regards,

Carolyn
