Francis Hughes 1906 Old Park, Belfast
Hi seeking help in locating my grandads family/foster family. He never had a birth certificate so parentage unknown. How can I find his records. Have been on my heritage found links to Bell and possibly Whitman now GB.
Possible foster aunts called Elizabeth, Susan and Mary. His foster mother might have been his real mother but unmarried, possibly. She was called Amy or Annie. She died when he was 6. He spoke of living with a Johnny Hughes and had a younger foster brother also John Hughes.
He married my Gran Matilda Hughes and they had 6 girls (now all deceased). My mother was the youngest. Brigid Hughes she sang in the UTV Tommy James show. My Grandfather was a singer and musician the band was called the Frank Hughes Allstars. He was a trade unionist as he himself worked in the mills as a young boy and he fought to get Byssinosis recognised as a disease from working in the mills. He received and MBE from the Queen for this work in 1971. Found the Belfast Gazette from this time where he is noted on the honours list.
