Carslaw & Coyle near Templepatrick, Co Antrim

Antrim

Im trying to tie up a couple loose ends...

William Carslaw & Jane(t) Coyle lived in Cloughanduff in 1831 according to church census with their 4 children.

Children:

Jane  born c 1817 Ireland. Married William Graham 31st dec 1936, Templepatrick. Died. 1867, Glasgow.

Thomas born c 1821 Ireland. Married Mgt McRae 1868 in Glasgow.

Ellen /Helen born c 1825 Ireland. Married Francis Taylor in 1851 in Glasgow. Place of death unknown. Possibly England after 1891

William born c 1832, Cloughanduff. Married jane houston. Died 1890 in Glasgow.

Was this a national church census or specific to the area? Is Coyle a Catholic name? All 4 children end up living in Glasgow, but cant find out if parents moved there too? William Snr ( born c 1800s) was noted as a soldier/ drummer in his son William jnrs death certificate...any idea what army he would have served in? And would they have a record of enlisted soldiers? Also Carslaw is noted as one of the familys who came over during the plantation...is there a list somewhere of the specific families that came over?  If I came over to Templepatrick or Belfast am ai likely to find oit any more info from local records? Thanks for any help.

Ann-Marie,

The census was not a national census. It would have been specific to the church. Sometimes when a new Minister took over he decided to check the extent of his congregation.

The soldier/drummer would have been in the British army. The main records are held in the National Archives, Kew, London but some information can be found on findmypast and Ancestry.

There are no records of the individual families that moved to Ireland in the 1600s.
