Grandpa Patrick McCann - Moneyglass, Toome, Antrim

Duneane (Antrim)

Hello,

I would like to visit the area of Moneyglass where my grandpa grew up before moving to Canada when he was 3 years old. I'm having some difficulty confirming the meet and greet as I previously spoke with Elwyn. Elwyn offered to pick up my husband and I from the Toome bus stop and drive us to Moneyglass on May 10. Is this still possible? There isn't a meet and greet scheduled in my dashboard and I would like to confirm.

Thank you,

Jovanna

Jovanna,

I can’t explain why your Meet and Greet request does not appear on your dashboard. However I can confirm that I am expecting to meet you both on Sunday 10th May. I’ll meet you off the bus at Toome Park & Ride. You just need to tell me when you are arriving there (as per my e-mail to you on 2nd April).

Hi Elwyn,

Thank you for your message and for confirming. On Sunday, May 10, we plan to arrive at the the Toome Park & Ride between 9:05-9:30am. We plan on catching the 12:55pm bus at Toome Park & Ride returning to Belfast.

Is your email address ahoghill@irelandxo.com still the best to reach you at? I emailed you a couple times but I wasn't sure if you received it.

Thank you!

Hi Elwyn,

When we visit Moneyglass, would it be possible to see Our Lady of Lourdes, Moneyglass, on 103 Roguery Road? My great grandparents got married in the older chapel before the new church was rebuilt in the 1920s. I would be interested in seeing the building, land, and the nearby graveyard beside Our Lady of Lourdes. If we have time, I would be interested in seeing Jacob Green's farm and the Green Garden graveyard. If there is anywhere else you would like to show me in Moneyglass, I would be very interested. I'm still working on finalizing my family tree as I have spent months doing extensive research. If you would find it helpful, I can send you what I have. Thank you!

Jovanna,

Visiting Moneyglass chapel is already in the itinerary I have in mind. It is about a mile from where I will pick you up in Toome. The building where your ancestors married is gone (as you already know) but the foundations are still visible in the graveyard. So you will easily see that. But I will also take you to Duneane Church of Ireland that your Galway family would have attended. It’s been there for hundreds of years and so is contemporary. Legends say St Patrick founded it but who knows? It’s certainly quite old. A thousand years or more.

I intend to take you through the various townlands where your ancestors lived, including Jacob Greene’s farm. All these locations are within a mile or two of Toome. No huge distances are involved.

Hi Elwyn, that sounds fantastic! Thank you very much. It's getting really exciting now. I will continue to work on my family tree and will bring it with me on the day of. I can also send you a copy once it's finalized. I have been able to go back up to 6 generations for the Galway line and 4 generations for the McCann line.
