Finlay ancestors
I'm searching for information on my great uncle Harry (Henry) Finlay. He was born about 1887 in Lisburn. He appears in the 1901 Census at College Square, Camlough, Armagh at the age of 14. I'm unable to find him in the 1911 Census. He had 5 brothers, All of whom ended up emigrating to Canada, however the youngest 3, William, Ernestand Tom were only 6, 4 and 2 respectively. I believe their mother died around 1906 and Father remarried at some point and then he went to Russia. The youngest boys were looked after by either other family members or housekeepers. The youngest boys, Ernest and Tom went to live with their brother Harry in Carrickfergus where he had his own mill, bleaching and dyeing, according to family history. I believe he married an Alice Fraser (Frazer) from Belfast. He was an amateur soccer player who played with the Glentoran professional team.
They had one daughter Elizabeth who married (don't know who) who became quite a noted musician. She apparently directed the Ulster Choir which toured Canada in the 1950's.
I have found in the Wills Index for Northern Ireland a Henry Finlay who died in November 1942. The following is the excerpt from PRONI
Finlay Henry of Holybank Templepatrick county Antrim mill manager died 11 November 1942 Administration Belfast 3 March to Alice Finlay the widow. Effects 1188 18s. 4d.
I would like to know more about his life in Carrickfergus and if possible the surname of his daughter. If you require more information please contact me.
Regards,
Libby
