Looking for Family

AntrimAntrim (Antrim)

Jane Elizabeth Currie, dau. of Joseph Currie, MaryAnn McMullan born 01 Dec. 1894, Belfast. also known as Jinnie.

Immigrated to Canada, married Albert Moore, 01 Dec. 1920, Montreal, Quebec.

Mary Ann Currie, born abt. 1878, Belfast. said to be a cousin of Jane Elizabeth Currie. Possibly she is her mother. Mary Ann married Joseph Cummins, also born Belfast, 27 July 1893. Cannot find a record of their marriage. 2 children, boy born 1918, Montreal, Joseph. girl born 1919, Montreal, Mabel.

I also am not sure when they immigrated, possibly Jane Elizabeth in 1911, Mary Ann in 1911/12.

Both were in Montreal, Quebec, during the 1st. world war.As well as Joseph Cummins.

Hi,

My name is Jeanette and I volunteer with IrelandXO.

There is a lot of data from which to work with on your variety of names.  I do see where some published genealogies on the web give contradictory data which can further confuse the issue of where to look. That contradictory data as well as the many, many people with the same name who immigrated to Canada can result in not knowing which line to follow. I had this problem with my McIntyre line, whose favorite name was William for 6 generations and the many branches, even within cousins lines.

I am not certain what documents you have been able to retrieve so far, but can offer a couple of links that should be useful.

The Presbyterian Historical Society of Ireland should be able to guide you on which Diocese Parish to look for your families as there will be more than one based on what locations you have determined.

Not knowing exactly when Jane Elizabeth Currie arrived in Canada can be problematic in determining if the family showing in the 1901 and 1911 Ireland census is actually Jane and her birth family.

Is it possible that she was actually born in 1889-1890? If so then this might just be her. Many times a particular name was given to children born in one family line.

The site found at http://www.lennonwylie.co.uk/gcomplete1910.htm  has a lot of data for Belfast and surrounding areas for your time periods.

If Jane was in Canada during World War I or just before, then the window for emigration would only be 7 or so years 1911 -1918. I would search the ships lists while keeping track in a data base as there are so many. http://www.olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/tocan1865-now.shtml .  The info at http://www.members.shaw.ca/nfhs might also be of use in tracking this down.

If you have been able to track down the exact towns Jane and the varied relatives lived in, check for local histories on line, targeting all the varied location names through the history of the towns.  I had one who lived and died in the same local, yet was listed in three different states histories and numerous county histories because of changing borders.

You mention that Albert fought in WWI. Was he enlisted from Canada or Ireland? http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/cef/001042-110.01-e.php?PHPSESSID=59gk1u63nnus01lh4p43q3pnb3&q1=moore&q2=&q3=&interval=20  and

http://www.taoiseach.gov.ie/eng/Historical_Information/1916_Commemorations/Irish_Soldiers_in_the_First_World_War.html might provide data from which to locate him.

Hope this all helps, Jeanette
