Workman and may family ancestors

Hi looking for information on workman family at Portadown, co Armagh. My ancestor is John workman who married Margaret may (1803- born drumcree) known children. Robert 1834, Ellen 1837 and John 1841. I believe John workman had a brother Meredyth. Here is a letter from Margaret workman to my elderly mother's great grandfather. Church records show Robert workman may have been christened John William workman

In Griffith's Valuation of Armagh, there were two Meredith Workmans and two Margarets listed as head of household in 1865.

Thank you Patricia. Wondering if there is anywhere else I can further research these two families. If we are DNA connected to these families their descendant/our ancestor forged a great pathway in NZ in mid 1800s. Looking for descendants of these families

Hi,

I looked on the paid site, Roots Ireland, for birth and marriage records for your family; but the only two records I saw were those of two children of Meredith.

Here they are:

Charles Workman, baptized 28 Oct 1827, residence - Kilmoriarty, parish - Portadown, CI, Armagh, parents - Meredith Workman, weaver & Elizabeth (no surname)

Caroline Anne Workman, baptized 27 Feb 1831, residence - Corcrain??, parish - Portadown, CI, Armagh, parents - Meredith Workman, weaver & Elizabeth (no surname)

I'm not sure why the records you are searching for do not show on Roots Ireland because the baptism records for Portadown began in 1826.

Regards,

Diviny and Richmount are side by side, so these 2 families were just a few hundred yards apart and are likely to be related.

Other probates for the Workmans of Richmount. The files are not on-line and are in PRONI in Belfast:

Family Tree DNA reportedly has more people with Ulster roots than any other company. That obviously increases the chances of finding a match. If you have already tested your DNA with Ancestry, My Heritage or 23&Me you can upload your DNA results to Family Tree DNA for free and then join the North of Ireland Family History Society DNA Project. Simple instructions on how to do this can be found here:

Hello:

I am a May descendant of Peter and Sarah May who lived Corcrain, Portadown, Armagh, Ireland.  They immigrated to Canada sometime between 1824 and 1831.  Their two oldest daughters are believed to have married before the family immigrated and therefore remained in Ireland.  The oldest daughter, Martha is said to have been born in 1804 (although I have no records of her birth--this date was on Ancestry).   I have the birth record  of John May who was Martha's brother and the only son of Peter and Sarah.  John was born in 1820.  I understand that there are birth/christening records for all of the May children who were born in Drumcree Parish (these are available at PRONI and I will be visiting there soon and looking for the ones that I don't have).  I have been in contact with another May descendant who also lives in Canada and she visited PRONI a couple of years ago and found some links to the Workman family.  The other family name that we have from the area is Sinnamon.  I have seen Workman and Sinnamon in some records, but no one on Ancestry seems to know who Martha married.  Do you think she could be who you are looking for?  I have taken a DNA test and have also uploaded my results to a couple of other sites.  Let me know if I can help further.  I live in Vancouver, B.C., Canada and I will contact the other descendant who also lives in BC and refer her to this post as she will be very happy to see all of the Workman information above.
