Hi,
I am from Australia so please excuse my ignorance of County Cork. I am researching my Wilson ancestors from Corran North. First, I am trying to work out the parishes and I need to ascertain if Corran is in Kilmacabea or Drinagh. Second, is Corran known as a town land? If anyone can help me I would be most grateful.
Ken MIller.
Ken,
Corran North is a townland in Cloonkeen ED, in Kilmacabea Civil Parish, in Co. Cork.
Thank you so much Patricia. For an Aussie it just takes a while to work out all the geographical, political and ecclesiastical division names in Ireland. Now that I know where Corran is situated I am looking for someone who can give me so information about my Wilson ancestors. I have records of them in both the 1901 and 1911 census but need to tie them in with my Wilson family. My great great grandfather was Allen Wilson of Corran. His parents were Charles and Margaret Wilson. I believe he had 2 sisters and 2 brothers. It is a brother, William, who was living in Corran early in the 20th century. I have many questions about this family. A starting one would be: Does anyone know of any Wilsons living in Corran today?
Regards
Ken MIller
Ken,
Perhaps contact a historical society in the Corran area? Here's a link to a list of Cork historical societies. Maybe someone at one of these groups can assist.
Hi Ken,
go to irishgenealogy.ie go to Civil Records, put in Wilson in Surname, put in Skibbereen as Registration area, put in range of years from 1864 - 1920 and click on Births; Marriages & Deaths and fill in the Security details that come up after that and you will get 88 Births, 25 Deaths & 19 Marriages of Wilson persons. Most will be from Corran but not all. By clicking on each name, you will get full details of each person from the Register and these can be printed if you wish.
This website is completly free as is the information from Civil and Church Records there. Church Records go back further to very early 1800s. In Church Records, use Kilmacabea, On either records put in first name and put in Cork & Ross for all the Diocese if you want it to be a more specific or widespread search and in Civil Records if you want Wilson records from all over the country, do not specify any area of Registration, just leave blank.
Happy searching. If you need any further help, contact me on frankfahy054@gmail.com
