William Vile Marriage

Hi

Can anybody help in tracing a marriage between William Vile (1788-1869) and his wife, Sarah?

William had been born in Somerset but enlisted with the 40th Regiment of Foot in 1803.He rose to the rank of Colour Sergeant by 1817/18, before returning home and then to Ireland.

By 1823 he was married to Sarah, who from English census records had come from Ireland; their first known child, James, was baptised in Fermoy, County Cork in 1822 - his father's regiment (40th Foot) listed on his record.

Can anybody trace a marriage between the two? It probably would have taken place sometime between 1818 and 1822.

It is probably that the family were members of the Anglican church.

During the Irish Civil War many records were destroyed. You should contact the Mallow Heritage Centre to see if they have any marriage records for that period.

Non-Catholic marriages were civilly registered starting in 1845 ( RC marriages were included starting 1864). I checked to see if there were any Vile marriages in the period 1845-1863 and I found a Susan Vile married to a Joseph Parkin in 1861. See fourth record at the link below. The father of Susan was Edward. Joseph Parkin was a sergeant in the 14th Dragoons based at the Curragh Camp in Co. Kildare.
