William Thomas Weldon

Good Evening,

My 3xggf William Thomas Weldon was born on the 11th Nov 1842 Dublin Ireland. William joined the British Army in 1861

Rank:Private #1785

14th Regiment, 2nd Battlion. The Prince of Wales Own, The Buckinghamshire Regiment which was based in Ireland Curragh Camp. I am desperately trying to find who his parents or siblings were. How would I apply for his listing? Would it give me his parents names? I am going to Ireland but I only have a 4 day window. I also think he was Catholic. Ireland Reaching Out gave me your information, they also told me to tag Dublin and Kildare (for the Curragh) does that make sense? I really hope someone can help me smash this 20 year brick wall down.

Hello Linda, I am looking at old queries and hopefully if you got here you found something as I did  not locate anything specific to your query, there is one Thomas Weldon on the online free Dublin records but he is born in 1838, you can see it here on this free site, civil records for all only commenced in 1864. https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ Click on church icon and you will be asked to sign in but it is then free. There is no mothers name on the transcription.

The subscription site Roots Ireland has 11 Thomas Weldon's baptised 1836 to 1846, 7 are in Dublin and Meath which adjoins Dublin to the north, two in County Down etc without at parents name it is impossible to pick one out, there are no 1841 baptisms shown. If you locate his marriage or death records some record the fathers name.

The Curragh in Kildare is still a military base, also home to flat racing and the Irish Derby. 

I looked at military records on Ancestry but no joy at all, there is another subscription site Forces War Records which may have some information but I lapsed my membership but it was not a lot about £10 a month I think. HIs joining record may record his fathers name etc
