William Lougheed, Ballymote, Sligo

My father was adopted aged two months and never knew his father.  I have discovered who my Grandfather was via DNA testing and the family tree goes back to William Lougheed, Postmaster and Apothecary who was my GG Grandfather.  I believe his Father may have been a James Lougheed of Riverstown, but can't find any solid information.  I would be very grateful if anyone could help me verify this and also the name of his wife.

Death of Mary Lougheed, of same address ( I think this is William's wife above) Emlaghfad (Emlyfad) Ballymote Sligo

Mary's record shows that she was a widow when she died in Dec 1871....if her husband died in Mar 1877, her record would reflect that she was married. Interesting that the surnames of the person present at both deaths are the same.

Do you know if William was RC or COI? There is a marriage record on Roots Ireland for a William Lougheed who married Judith Anne White in 1843 (COI)...parish was St. John's Union, Sligo.

Regards,

Carolyn

I agree it is puzzling about the dates , I checked and a James  (1870) , a John (1868)  and a joseph (1869)  Lougheed died around the same time preceeding Mary but unfortunately the records are not available on Irishgenealogy.ie so I have no way to follow up. The names suggest they are RC but you never know.

Eileen, & Carolyn,  Thank you,  The Mary Lougheed you have found is the widow of Dr. Joseph Lougheed, who was Medical Officer at Ballymote, he was born in 1793 and died in 1869.  Joseph was a brother, or possibly a half brother of my G.G. Grandfather William Lougheed who was born in 1809 and died in 1877 and was Postmaster and Apothecary. at Ballymote.  Another brother John, was also a Doctor and the fourth James took over the family Farm.  It is their Father, also called James Lougheed and his Wife I am looking for.  I think he was born about 1765 but that is just information picked up from another tree and may be incorrect.  The witness at both Deaths is from the Morrison family who were related to the Lougheed's by marriage.  That I am afraid is as far as I have got with my research and owes a great deal to Mr. John C. McTernon's book "The Light of Bygone Days"..  Sligo Genealogy Centre sent me an extract of it and it was so helpful.  I would love to have met the Author!

Thank you both so much for trying to help.

Emma, do you have your fathers (real) name and date of birth ? Do you know who his mother was ? There are many people called James Lougheed and we do not have a timeline so if you have any further information that might help as there are many Lougheed connections to Riverstown, unfortunately it was only from 1864 that records were kept but that is not to say that other records may be available.

Marriage of James Lougheed and Mary Jane Morrison 1855  ( I wonder if this is a connection?)

Death of Robert Lougheed Morrison 1900, interesting

Eileen and Carolyn,  I'm so sorry that it's taken so long to answer.  My computer crashed completely just after your last post and apparently cannot be repaired.  I have now acquired another computer and am getting up and running again.  The Lougheed and Morrison families are related and I think that I need to do some more research before I ask for help again.  I've not seen the death certificate for Robert Lougheed Morrison before and it looks very interesting.

Again apologies for the delay and thank you both for all your help.
