William Francis Murphy and Margaret Dunn

Good Evening

This is my first post so I hope I have done this right. My Murphy family crosses over several parishes(St Marys / St Johns / St Michaels) but seems to be predominately in St Marys.

~~I’m researching the family of William Francis Murphy and Margaret Dunn

William was born in Limerick approx 1824 and married Margaret Dunn at St Marys Roman Catholic Church in 1843. They had four children Mary, John, William and James at the time they migrated to Australia on board the ship Stebonheath in 1858. Williams occupation was blacksmith.

Williams australian death certificate states his parents as James Peter Murphy (labourer) and Catherine Minogue however anecdotal family information indicates his mother may have been called Jane. Not sure if Jane and Catherine are the same person.
My queries are:
1) Is it possible to get an extract of the original marriage entry for William and Margaret. And would this give me any more information than the entry that is on RootsIreland (1843 St Marys Parish)
2) The 4 children at the time of migration were baptised at either St Marys or St Johns. What were these areas like in the 1840’s and what areas would the family likely have lived?
3) There is a baptism entry on RootsIreland for William Murphy born 23/3/1824, parish St Michaels, Father: James Murphy, Mother: Jane Murphy. Any ideas how I can determine if this Willam Murphy is my William.

Thankyou to all the wonderful people who keep this board running.

cheers

Hi,

Not sure if you still watching this post, but, I found the marriage record for 1843 at St Mary’s in their online scans.

As a bonus, I also found William’s older brothers James (1818) and Patrick (1821). Haven’t been able to find James and Jane’s marriage entry.

I also found all of the entries for William and Margaret’s kids prior to migrating to Australia.

Thanks for your post, my family never knew anything about our Irish roots, other than a vague “Cork or Limerick”.
